player ready...Two new members and an incumbent have been sworn in to the Central Community Unit School District 301 board.
Christina Johnson and Tina Johnson have begun their first four-year terms. Jeff Kellenberger will serve a second four-year term.
The board also was reorganized, with Kellenberger continuing as president and Janet Marlovits, former secretary, now board vice president. Christina Johnson is the new secretary.
Outgoing board members Maggie Perry and Duane Schmitt were presented with plaques in appreciation for their service. Perry served two terms, Schmitt one.
“School board members are not paid,” said Superintendent Todd Stirn. “They serve for the love of their community and their love of the district. During their time on the board, Duane Schmitt and Maggie Perry accomplished quite a bit. They were here when we started all-day kindergarten and the 1:1 technology program. They were also here when voters approved a referendum to expand and improve Central High School.”
“It’s been a fast four years,” Schmitt said. “I know the tradition of District 301, and we’re still building on it. Our district is always pushing the envelope.”
Perry chimed in with, “The key to the success of the board is working together. The teachers are the key players in the success of the district. I will never forget my time with the district. I will always value it.”
