Selection Thursday was good to the Northwestern women’s golf team. Illinois too.

The Wildcats will be the No. 3 seed in the Athens, Ga., region of the NCAA golf tournament, and the Illini are seeded eighth in Albuquerque, N.M. The regionals will be played May 8-10.
The goal for both is to advance to the main event May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms, the picturesque and diabolical course in west suburban Sugar Grove that ranks among Golf Digest’s top 100.
The top six finishers in each of four 18-team regionals will make it to Rich Harvest.
Northwestern coach Emily Fletcher was at Rich Harvest for media day Thursday morning and had hoped to walk the course to gain a tiny edge.
“The language says you cannot play or practice,” she said. “To me, that’s not walking. I asked for a clarification (by the NCAA) and was told it includes walking.”
That’s OK. Fletcher knows the course quite well and hopes to have her team return next month.
