Deputies responded at 6:10 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 18900 block of West Old Plank Road near Grayslake for a report of domestic battery, officials said in a news release on Sunday. They learned Lloyd R. Smith, 46, whose permanent address was unknown, entered the residence without permission while his ex-girlfriend was sleeping, according to the release.
Smith took his ex-girlfriend’s cellphone so she couldn’t call for help, authorities said. He is accused of holding her and her young child captive for several hours, during which time the woman said he battered her and threatened to kill her, according to the news release. He then fled from the home, officials said.
Smith had an active arrest warrant for escape after being sentenced to electronic monitoring in connection with a previous case and not reporting when required, according to the release. He had another active warrant for unlawful restraint and domestic battery in connection to a similar incident that happened last month, according to the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement authorities later found and apprehended Smith at a motel in the 500 block of Northwest Highway in Palatine, according to the release.
Smith was taken to the Lake County jail and charged with felony counts of residential burglary, unlawful restraint, domestic battery, criminal trespass to residence and driving with a revoked driver’s license, in addition to his active arrest warrants, the release said.
A judge ordered Smith held without bail, officials said. He is due in court at 9 a.m. Friday.
