A Buffalo Grove woman faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery after, police said, she stabbed one of her roommates following an argument.
Nancy Balladares, 25, of the 800 block of Trace Drive, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in the incident, Buffalo Grove police said in a statement.
A woman, who is roommates with Balladares and a 32-year-old man, called police to the residence at 2 a.m. Saturday, after an argument started between the woman and Balladares, police said.
All three roommates met officers outside of the residence, where the 32-year-old man “aided in the conciliation.” Officers left after the issue appeared to be resolved but were called back at 3:30 a.m. for a report of a person being stabbed.
Officers then found Balladares fighting with the 32-year-old man, who appeared to have been stabbed in the neck and head, Buffalo Grove police said. Paramedics with the Buffalo Grove Fire Department transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and was later released on Saturday, said Meghan Hansen, outreach officer for Buffalo Grove police.
“He did obtain substantial cuts, however, they missed the vital areas,” Hansen said.
Buffalo Grove police said the stabbing happened after the man grew “increasingly concerned about Balladares and her behavior,” and told her that he was planning to call police back to the residence. Police didn’t detail the nature of the argument.
Balladares initially was treated for minor injuries at a different hospital in the area before she was transferred Tuesday to Cermak Health Services of Cook County, a health care provider for prisoners within the Cook County Department of Corrections, Hansen said. Hospital staff there are “more appropriately” trained to handle security measures with prisoners, she said.
