It appears that voters in La Grange have voted to bring a new face to the Village Board.

With all 12 precincts counted, newcomer Louis Gale received 25.59 percent of the vote (979 votes).

Incumbent board members David McCarty and William Holder were re-elected. Holder had 24.73 percent (946 votes) and McCarty got 25.65 percent (981 votes).

Incumbent Mark Langan, who received 24.03percent of the vote (919 votes) appears to have fallen short in his bid for re-election, according to unofficial results.

Gale said Tuesday night that he was thrilled.

“The biggest thing was that I had a lot of friends and family who went out and knocked on doors,” he said. “They read rough drafts of (campaign) materials and pushed me to keep at it.”

Village President Thomas Livingston and Clerk John Burns were running unopposed. Livingston got 1,381 votes and Burns got 1,344 votes which, in each case, was reported in unofficial results as 100 percent.

Leaving a polling place in La Grange, resident Lisa Sher said she voted for a mix.

“I voted for both new people and incumbents as well,” she said. “It’s always good to have new blood, experience and options.”

Although there were very few people voting when she was there, Sher, who ran previously for village clerk but was not elected, understands how hard it is to be a candidate. .

“I wanted to show my support for those who run,” she said. “They all care very much about the community. It’s a bold step for anyone to get in the ring and it’s important for everyone to exercise their right to vote.”

When they were running for office, the candidates cited numerous reasons for wanting to be elected. Several said they wanted to have a role in helping a new police chief and village manager transition into new roles in La Grange. The former police chief retired in 2016. The village manager plans to retire in June.

Others mentioned working to ensure that flood control measures are taken in the village, updating the comprehensive plan and boosting lagging business areas.
