Leslie Hindman’s spring Luxury Accessories and Couture auction is underway — which means your favorite fashionista might be a little distracted (checking her online bids … again) or MIA today (the Near West Side auction house is tantalizingly close to downtown).
Chicago designer Maria Pinto didn’t have to take a spring skip day to put dibs on her favorites from the collection: She stopped by Hindman’s to make a few choice picks before the stilettoed sharks started circling.

Hindman’s blog shared her favorites, and her reaction to the racks of blue chip fashion: “It’s like standing in front of any art done by the great masters,” she said. “I feel truly inspired.” Her choices included an Alexander McQueen cocktail dress (“I love the burnished colors”) a pink and orange python suit ensemble from Chanel (“what’s not to adore?”) and a cream wool shift from Courreges (“clean, minimal perfection”).
It’s not surprising that clean lines would figure into Pinto’s picks: Her own easygoing, sculptural spring collection from her M2057 line was inspired by architect Zaha Hadid, a true master of dramatic lines and feminine perspective.
