Norridge School District 80 officials recently reminded parents about the necessity of children taking assessment tests, posting a letter from the Illinois State Board of Education about the requirement.

Under federal law, ISBE is required to administer certain assessments to all students who attend public schools in the state. Students must take an achievement exam in reading/language arts and mathematics each year from third through eighth grade

In Illinois, students take the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) exam. Students must take an achievement exam in reading/language arts and mathematics once in high school. High school juniors take the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT). In addition, students must take an achievement exam in science three times from third through 12th grade. Students take the Illinois Science Assessment, the ISBE letter said.

In addition, students identified as English learners must take an English language proficiency exam once per year until English proficiency is reached, the ISBE letter said.

Students with the most severe cognitive disabilities must take alternate assessments in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science.
