Firefighter suffers minor injury in apartment fire in Evanston

An Evanston firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury Friday after a fire broke out in a four-story apartment building, officials said.

In a release to the media, Evanston Fire Department officials said firefighters arriving at 911 Sherman Avenue around 1:30 p.m. found a fire in a rear, ground-floor apartment in the courtyard building.

The release said the cause of the fire isn’t yet known, though the Evanston Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating.

The firefighter was the only one injured during the blaze, the release said.

The Red Cross is at the location to help with anyone displaced during the fire, according to the release.
