The City of Aurora will host four Community Emergency Response Team training classes this year.
Students of the team learn to care for themselves, their neighbors and the public at-large in the first three days following a major disaster. Students learn fire suppression including fire extinguisher training, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, pre- and post-storm team operations and general disaster preparedness.
Classes are free and are open to adults and teens.
Teens who are 14 or 15 years old must attend with a parent or guardian. Teens who are 16 or 17 years old may attend with either a parent or guardian or a signed release form from a parent or guardian.
Each class is 26 total hours. Classes are held on various days and times:
* Class 1: Mondays, May 8, 15 and 22, June 5, 12 and 19 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Class 2: Thursdays, July 13 and 27, Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Class 3: Fridays, Sept. 15 and 22, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m
* Class 4: Tuesdays, Sept. 19 and 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After successful completion, students can apply to become members of Aurora’s Community Emergency Response Team, attend various competitions and volunteer at city events.
