A man allegedly robbed a Homer Glen gas station early Tuesday morning then escaped in a stolen car, officials said.

The robber displayed a shot gun when he demanded money at Speedway Gas Station in the 15000 block of S. Bell Road, according to a Will County Sheriff’s office statement.

A suspect was in custody but no one was charged in the case, officials said.

“The suspect struck an employee and took an undetermined amount of cash, as well as a purse from another customer that was in the store at the time,” the statement said.

The suspect fled the scene and crashed the car he was driving at Bell Road and 151st Street, the statement said.

“The suspect returned to the gas station and took a vehicle from a customer pumping gas after displaying a gun,” it said.

Police are not releasing a description of the stolen vehicle, according to Eill County Sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer.

Police believe “that the suspect is out of the area and there is no immediate threat to the surrounding area,” the statement said.
