The Hampshire Fire Protection District has received a $3,000 grant from TransCanada Corp. in Calgary, Alberta.
Joe Kahl of TransCanada presented the check to Hampshire fire Chief Bill Robinson, Deputy Chief Trevor Herrmann and Lt. Eric Larson.
Herrmann said there are three pipelines, including TransCanada’s, that run through the district.

“We will use the grant to purchase another brush fire skid unit for the department’s ATV,” Larson said. “We will be receiving another grant and use some impact fees for the unit. A skid unit costs around $5,000.”
The ATV has been used in local area forest preserves, prairies, by the railroad tracks, and for the annual Hampshire Coon Creek Country Days festival. It was also used after a tornado touched down in Fairdale in 2015.
