Three teenage boys were arrested on felony charges Thursday in connection with a stolen car out of Batavia and multiple vehicle burglaries in Oswego.
Oswego police responded to the 600 block of Hawley Drive about 1:45 a.m. Thursday for a report of three males breaking into vehicles, police said in a news release. A caller also described a suspicious vehicle circling the block several times, according to police.
When responding officers saw a sedan matching the caller’s description and tried to stop it, the driver fled from the car, running northbound through fields surrounding the neighborhood, police said.
Police later determined the car had been reported stolen out of Batavia.
Police set up a perimeter and searched for the suspects. About an hour later, they got a report of a suspicious male walking in the Ogden Falls subdivision, according to the news release.
Police then contacted the 24-hour businesses in the surrounding areas, asking employees to let them know if they noticed suspicious people or behavior. Soon after, police located the three teenagers, who they detained and transported to the police department, where they conducted interviews.
Three vehicles in the Prescott Mill Subdivision were entered without permission, all reportedly left unlocked in residential driveways, according to police.
The same charges were filed against all three arrested, a 16-year-old from Aurora, a 15-year-old form Montgomery and a 16-year-old from Batavia.
Each boy was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a felony; two counts of burglary to motor vehicle, also felonies; and criminal trespass to motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, according to police.
The Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges, and the boys were referred to juvenile court and released to their parents with a pending court date, police said.
