Three 17-year-olds from Western Springs have been arrested for trespassing and drinking alcohol inside a vacant, residential garage.
The three young men were arrested Thursday after police received a call at 2:56 p.m. from a witness who saw three people allegedly enter the vacant garage of in the 5400 block of Lawn Avenue.
When police responded, the teens exited the garage and ran south into a neighboring subdivision, police said.
One of the offenders was arrested in the 1100 block of Longmeadow Lane. A second teen was arrested at his house at 4:09 p.m. The third teen turned himself in at the Western Springs Police Department at about 7:30 p.m.
Officers determined that the inside of the garage contained alcoholic beverages, table and chairs, police said.
“Nothing was reported stolen from the garage, and it was apparent from the field investigation that the garage was being utilized as a location to consume alcoholic beverages,” said police Chief Brian Budds.
The owner of the vacant home confirmed that no one was granted permission to enter the garage at any time. It was confirmed that this garage had been unlawfully entered and used over an extended period of time. Budds said.
All of the 17-year-olds were charged with trespassing, obstructing a police officer and possession of alcohol by a minor. One of the teens was also charged with resisting arrest and possession of tobacco.
One the three injured their hand while fleeing and a La Grange police officer injured an arm while attempting to catch that person, Budds said.
All three teens were released to their parents sand have been petitioned to Cook County Juvenile Court.
