Burr Ridge Middle School fell just short in its quest for a second basketball title.
The Chieftains lost in overtime Thursday to the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, 35-34, in the finals of the eighth-grade Illinois Elementary School Association 3A finals at Tolono Unity Junior High School.
Burr Ridge advanced to the finals with a one-point win over Wenona Fieldcrest Junior High in the semifinals Feb. 11. That narrow final-four victory was their second of the day as the Chieftains advanced to the semifinals with a one-point win over Maroa-Forsyth in the elite eight.
It was Burr Ridge Middle School teacher Mike LaCassa’s fourth team in five years to finish in the top three. The school has one basketball championship, two second-place finishes and one third-place finish in those five years.
