A 37-year-old Aurora woman is accused of spitting in the face of a police officer during an arrest Monday night.

Evelyn Betsinger, 37, of the 800 block of Bowditch Street, is charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, a Class 2 felony, and also charged with Class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia in the incident at about 10:10 p.m. Monday in a convenience store parking lot on the 900 block of West Lake Street, police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said in an email.

Aurora police were called to the location because the woman apparently had been acting erratically, Ferrelli said. As officers investigated, they discovered Betsinger was wanted on two outstanding misdemeanor retail theft warrants out of Warrenville, Ferrelli said.

When searched, she was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, Ferrelli said.

She is accused of spitting in the face of a police officer who was in the process of placing her under arrest, Ferrelli said.

Betsinger is currently in custody at the Kane County Jail, where total bail for all charges has been set at $10,000.
