A 23-year-old man was killed in the 100 block of North Menard Avenue in the city’s Austin neighborhood.
A 25-year-old man was shot in the arm and taken to Mount Sinai, where he was in stable condition; another man, 18, was shot in the leg and taken to West Suburban Medical Center.
Another 25-year-old woman who was shot in the face was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, according to police.
At the shooting scene, around 10 p.m., the block, lined with large multi-unit apartments and large homes, was quiet. A police officer shone a flashlight onto yellow markers on the sidewalk before opening a black iron gate that led to the courtyard of a brick complex.
A man who lives nearby and didn’t want to be identified said every time he hears loud banging noises outside, he begins to pay attention, listens and gives it a few seconds to determine whether it’s gunfire or fireworks.
“Fireworks crack but gun shots pop. What made me get up and start to see what was going on is that it kept going,” he said. “The shots were way, way too fast for even a semi-automatic weapon. I would have to say it was at least 50 shots. It also lasted a good 30 seconds … not the typical 6 – 9 shots and done.”
He said he is beginning to feel unsafe in the area.

“It’s been bad but it is getting worse,” he said. “I fear for this summer, I think it will be a bloodbath and many innocent people will be killed – not just gangbangers.”
The man said people deal drugs out in the open at all hours of the day. Calls to 911 no longer get an immediate police response, he said. He’s said he’s now ready to support the National Guard, or other drastic measures because there aren’t enough police in the right places.
“We need the Guard to patrol the streets and immediately arrest anyone with a gun and also stop the loitering. I it can be zero out and we have the same people standing on the same corners 16 hours a day,” he said.
No one has been arrested in connection with the quadruple shooting.
