A 21-year-old Oswego man has been charged with aggravated criminal sex abuse of a teenage girl, according to charging documents filed in Kendall County Circuit Court.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the case in July when it received a report of the possible sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
In late January, the state’s attorney’s office charged Joshua Benjamin, 21, of the 200 block of Wolverine Drive, Oswego, with two counts of aggravated criminal sex abuse in which the defendant was at least five years older than the victim, both class two felonies.
Charging documents allege that between April 16 and June 16, 2016, Benjamin committed acts of sexual conduct with the girl.
On Feb. 1, members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force took him into custody without incident and took him to the Kendall County Jail, where bail was set at $25,000. He has since posted bond and is next scheduled to appear before Judge Timothy McCann at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 27 in Room 113 at the Kendall County courthouse in Yorkville, records show.
Reached by phone Wednesday morning, a family member said neither Benjamin nor his family had any comment.
