A trial date has been set for a 39-year-old Aurora man on charges that include attempted murder, according to court records.
Jermaine L. Baker has pleaded not guilty to allegations he shot a then-45-year-old man multiple times, including in the face, as he lay in bed during an August 2014 home invasion on Shamrock Court. Despite his injuries, the man was able to call 911. Authorities previously said the shooting was a result of a personal dispute between the man and Baker, who remains in Kane County Jail on $750,000 bail.
Kane County Judge James Hallock recently scheduled Baker’s trial to start June 12, with a hearing set for March 17 for pre-trial issues. This is the first time the case has been given a trial date since Baker’s arrest about a month after the shooting, court documents state.
More than a year ago, in December 2015, Hallock denied a motion by Baker’s attorney to suppress statements Baker made to Aurora police during an interview about the shooting. Baker’s attorney unsuccessfully argued investigators failed to read him his rights or to tell Baker his attorney had invoked his right to silence. Court records do not specify what Baker said to police about the incident.
