Rolling Meadows police continued to examine a home near Joliet on Thursday as part of the search for a college student who disappeared more than 40 years ago.

Michael Mansfield disappeared from his home in late December 1975 while home on break from Lincoln College in Lincoln, Ill. In a 2011 deathbed confession, a Joliet-area man told authorities he killed Mansfield, according to multiple media accounts at the time.

Detectives think evidence, or possibly Mansfield’s remains, may be at the home on Barber Lane, police said in a news release.

Police tape lined the property late Wednesday, and a police mobile unit was parked outside the home.

Rolling Meadows police Cmdr. Tom Gadomski declined to comment Thursday on details of the case.

The Cook County major case assistance team and the Will County sheriff’s office are assisting.
