An Aurora man who fled the state while free on bond has been captured and convicted of dealing cocaine in 2002, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
A Kane County jury on Tuesday convicted Pedro Giles, 37, most recently of the 300 block of Old Indian Trail, Aurora, of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, both class X felonies.
Jurors deliberated for about two hours before reaching the verdict, according to the release.

During the two-day trial, Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Andrew Whitfield and Bridget Sabbia presented evidence that undercover officers with the North Central Narcotics Task Force made arrangements in December 2002 to buy three ounces of cocaine from Giles’ co-defendant, Javier Perez, 50, also of Aurora, at a specific time and location, the release said.
“When the officers met Perez in a parking lot in the 200 block of South Lake Street, Aurora, Perez said he didn’t have enough cocaine but could get more,” according to the release.
Perez called another co-defendant, Ricardo Lopez Magallon, 44, who agreed he would help the officers buy more cocaine, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
Magallon drove with the undercover officers to the 1-99 block of North Root Street and waited for Giles, who showed up and sold the officers about 86 grams of cocaine for $2,400, according to the release.
Giles and Magallon were arrested after the sale.
The undercover officers went back to Perez, bought 1.65 grams of cocaine from him for $75, then arrested him too.
Police later found between 400 and 900 grams of cocaine and $1,400 in cash during a lawful search of Giles residence, according to the state’s attorney’s office. Giles admitted to police the cocaine and money were his.
After the three men were charged, posted bond and were released, they all fled. Warrants were issued for their arrests.
Local authorities in Montgomery County, Texas, arrested Giles in October 2014 and extradited him back to Kane County that November, according to the release.
