Ross Adelman, a senior at Lake Forest High School, normally studies for finals at school, but on Jan. 9 he was in the basement program room of the Lake Forest Library. In a new effort, the library made extra space available for students during finals and offered power outlets, coffee, snacks, study supplies and stress balls.
Q. How many hours do you usually put into studying for finals?
A. Two to three hours a day for that week.
Q. Where do you normally study?
A. I try to go out to our high school more often because there are not too many kids there after school. I never knew this area here (at library).
Q. How’s the library as a place to study?
A. During my freshman to junior year, if I had known about it, I probably would have come here.
Q. Taken advantage of the food or stress balls or coffee?
A. Snacks, no coffee.
Q. What class do you dread the most?
A. I would say math. We get to use a note card on our final and put some formulas on that. And material science, which is a mix of chemistry, physics and engineering.
Q. Any tips or tricks for studying?
A. Being in a quiet environment is key. Normally I don’t study with other people although sometimes it can be beneficial, helping you and quizzing you. Definitely not waiting until the last minute to study something you are struggling with.
