Aurora police are encouraging people buying or selling items on social media platforms such as Offer Up and Facebook to use the police department – on the 1200 block of East Indian Trail Road – as a safe place to conduct their business transactions.
In a Facebook post asking people to “please consider” conducting transactions at the department, police warned of crimes that have occurred during planned transactions held elsewhere in the city.

“We experienced a number of robberies and thefts last year stemming from people wanting to buy or sell items on social media but instead, had those items taken, some forcibly, when they showed up thinking the person with whom they were going to do business was legit,” read the department’s post.
In the Facebook post, the department suggested people conduct business in the station’s parking lot or lobby, which is open 24 hours a day year-round.
If someone balks at doing a transaction at the police department, “that should raise a red flag that maybe they’re not who they say they are,” police said in the post.
