Police in Melrose Park on Tuesday were continuing the investigation of a shooting Sunday at left an Aurora man dead and another person wounded.
Anthony Scott, 24, was pronounced dead at 3:17 p.m. Sunday inside a home in the 1200 block of Winston Drive, authorities said. Scott died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Melrose Park police said they believe the incident was not random and are working with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force on the investigation.
A couple people of interest were in custody Monday, a police spokesman said.
Scott’s uncle, Ken Scott, on Tuesday described his nephew as fun-loving, a lover of music and the life of the party.
Scott had a 6-month-old son who is also named Anthony, the uncle said.
When Anthony Scott, his long-term girlfriend and their baby boy joined a family gathering, Scott seemed happy and proud of the baby, and was looking forward to raising a son, Ken said.
Ken said Anthony was especially close to his sister. Although she was a couple years older than Anthony, they called themselves twins, their uncle said.
Scott, who grew up in Lakewood and most recently lived in Aurora, worked at a factory and enjoyed playing basketball and collecting shoes in his spare time, Ken said.
When Ken heard of Anthony’s killing, he couldn’t believe it, he said.
“We’re scrambling to find out all the details,” Ken said.
“We need to stop the violence and eliminate all the guns in the street,” Ken said. “I think we need common sense gun laws. … There’s too many guns out there.”
