A woman who was one of 71 people shot over last Memorial Day weekend in Chicago has died, authorities said.

Precious Land, 27, was shot just before 8:05 p.m. May 28, 2016, while driving in a block from her home, authorities said. Land was pronounced dead at 9:24 p.m. on Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Land died from complications from a remote gunshot wound to the neck–meaning a wound suffered some time ago, the office determined following an autopsy Sunday.

Land was found shot in the driver’s seat of a car on the 3900 block of West Lexington Street in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said at the time. She lived one block east on Lexington, according to the medical examiner’s office.

She was shot in the lower neck and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she initially was in critical condition.

She was driving when someone on the street fired shots. She crashed just east of Pulaski Road.

Land’s family was profiled by The New York Times as part of a series about Chicago violence. Her mother has appealed in a GoFundMe page for help raising money for the family’s expenses, including relocating the family so Land’s four young children will be safer.

The shooting happened “minutes after dropping her kids off” and while she was “heading back home just one block from her house,” Land’s mother wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Land’s mother has documented ups and downs in Land’s condition over the months since she was shot, including that she had been hospitalized again recently.

Police and court records indicate no one has been arrested in Land’s shooting.

Tribune data at the time showed that 69 people were shot between 3 p.m. May 27 and 6 a.m. onMay 31, but later reporting increased that number to 71.
