Two antennas would be added to a 102-foot-tall cell tower in Tinley Park to help improve wireless telephone service under a plan recently approved by the village’s Plan Commission.

The antennas would be between the village’s police station and fire training tower. The proposed antennas would be installed 80 feet above ground but below existing antennas, officials said.

The plan would also include having ground equipment and a new privacy fence.

Verizon Wireless officials said the enhancements would improve local wireless service.

The existing monopole cell tower, erected in 1998 at 7850 183rd St., is about 1,450 feet east of the nearest residential zoning district. The 102-foot structure includes a lightning rod at the top.

Village Planner Stephanie Kisler said Jan. 5 that the commission’s approval of the plan didn’t require other action by village officials.
