At about 9:06 a.m. Thursday, Yorkville police went to the 700 block of Arrowhead Drive for a report that a package had been stolen from the front porch of a residence, according to a news release from Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Larry Hilt.
Officers located the car that they believe was involved with the theft, a 2003 Toyota Avalon that had been reported stolen to the department Jan. 2. Police then tried to pull the car over at Omaha and Homestead Drive, according to the news release.
The driver allegedly fled from the traffic stop at a “high rate speed” through the Heartland subdivision, losing control on the 600 block of Heartland Drive, according to the news release. The car struck a large tree in the parkway, ejecting the driver, who the release stated was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was not identified in the press release.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the traffic crash report and the Illinois State Police assisted with traffic crash reconstruction, according to the release.
The release does not state whether there were any passengers or whether any packages were found in the vehicle. A voice mail left for a department spokesman was not immediately returned Thursday afternoon.
