At 7:18 p.m. a passerby called the fire department about a fire in the 400 block of East Illinois Road, according to a news release from the Lake Forest Fire Department. Crews arrived to find flames coming from the chimney of a house and called for additional firefighters from Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Knollwood, Lincolnshire, Libertyville, Deerfield and Wheeling.
The fire took about 30 minutes to get under control, Battalion Chief Mike Gallo said by email.
A broken water pipe contributed to damage of the home, although the residents were not displaced. Lake Forest firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, which they expect will take two weeks, Gallo said.
