Though Nick Viall hasn’t lived in Chicago in months, the city was prominently featured in Monday’s Season 21 premiere of “The Bachelor.”
Viall, 36, was shown stretching and running — shirtless! — through Grant Park in the opening of the two-hour episode. He was filmed walking (fully clothed) over the Michigan Avenue bridge while wearing a messenger bag and carrying a to-go cup.
Much of the premiere was devoted to Viall’s introduction to the 30 women vying for his roses and a recap of his failed televised relationships.
The Waukesha, Wis., native worked as a software salesman in Chicago when he competed for the hearts of Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe on subsequent seasons of “The Bachelorette.” He was dumped in both season finales, and he failed to find love over the summer in “Bachelor in Paradise.”

Viall, who moved to Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career, was announced as the 21st “Bachelor” in August. He was spotted in River North in September and November. Filming for the ABC network competition took place in the fall.
One of the contestants, Elizabeth Whitelaw, is an alumna of New Trier High School and a marketing manager in Texas. Besides calling Viall breathtaking, Whitelaw didn’t get much screen time Monday. She was one of 22 women who made it through the first rose ceremony. Eight contestants were sent home in the premiere.
“The Bachelor” airs 7 p.m. Mondays.
