Shaun Ramirez spent about 16 months in prison before being paroled in December 2015.
Less than a year later, Ramirez sits in Kane County Jail on $750,000 bail accused of stabbing an acquaintance during a Dec. 21 argument in Aurora. Ramirez faces charges of attempted murder, armed violence and aggravated battery in the attack on the 46-year-old man as he sat inside a car outside Ramirez’s Glen Circle home last week. The man suffered non-life threatening injuries, but required surgery.
Police said Ramirez fled after the attack, only to be apprehended without incident at his home a few hours later.
Aurora police cited a personal dispute as a possible motive for the stabbing.
Ramirez returns to court Jan. 6 for a status hearing before Kane County Judge Linda Abrahamson. The 34-year-old Aurora man, however, has been no stranger to Kane County courtrooms over the last decade or so, according to county and prison records.
Ramirez earned parole on Dec. 28, 2015, after serving a portion of his three-year sentence for convictions that included a 2014 aggravated battery. Prosecutors in that case said Ramirez slapped a 47-year-old woman, pulled her out of a car by her hair and then choked her after she intervened in an argument between Ramirez and his girlfriend.
In the 10 years prior to that incident, Ramirez was sent to prison for spitting on a court officer, battering a pregnant woman, fleeing police and, in 2006, for beating up a man and stealing his neck chain during an apparent road rage incident, court documents show. He also spent time in custody as a juvenile for selling drugs.
