A suburban Christmas Eve party turned violent when a man pulled out a revolver during an argument and shot an acquaintance in the abdomen, Cook County prosecutors said.

Alford Thorpe, 44, of Harvey, was charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting outside a home in the 17000 block of Parkside Avenue in South Holland. The 35-year-old victim was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was treated for internal injuries and damage to his pelvis, prosecutors said. The victim, who prosecutors said is the nephew of Thorpe’s girlfriend, was listed as stable at the hospital.

The shooting occurred after Thorpe and his girlfriend were arguing at the holiday gathering and Thorpe was asked to leave. Thorpe, prosecutors said, later returned to the party with a .38-caliber revolver and shot one man after he and others came outside to talk with him. Thorpe then pointed the gun at others before partygoers wrestled him to the ground and pulled the weapon out of his hand.

A judge ordered Thorpe held on $800,000 bond during a brief Monday court hearing.
