Two shootings and a car crash early Friday all appear to be related, police said in a news release.

About 3:30 a.m. Friday, police responded to a home in the 600 block of Spring Street after a resident said a man with a gunshot wound forced his way into the house and asked the resident to call an ambulance, according to the news release.

The man, a 19-year-old from Aurora, had been shot in his residence in the 700 block of East Galena Boulevard, but the details surrounding the shooting are not yet clear, according to police.

As police were investigating the first shooting, a call came in about a car that had crashed into a building and subsequent shots fired in the 500 block of East New York Street, according to the news release.

Responding officers located a 16-year-old boy, the brother of the 19-year-old who was shot, with injuries related to the crash, according to police.

Police determined the 16-year-old had been the driver and sole occupant of the car that crashed, a 2007 Cadillac CTS, that crashed into a multi-unit apartment building. The car was also struck by gunfire, police said.

People had been inside the apartment building, but no one was injured, and the crash caused minimal damage to the structure, according to police. In addition to the Cadillac, gunfire also struck a neighboring residence to the crash site, according to police.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the origin of the shooting, police said.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics took both brothers to local hospitals, where they are receiving treatment for injuries that are not life-threatening, according to police.

“Details surrounding all three incidents, including possible motives and exactly how they are connected, are still being investigated,” police said in the news release.

Police said they do not believe either shooting is random.

Police ask anyone with information about the incidents to call Aurora police investigators at 630-256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.
