The 15-year-old is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a converted motor vehicle, both felonies; obstructing police, a misdemeanor; and several traffic offenses.
At about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of a pickup truck that had been stolen from a driveway on the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue after it was left unlocked with the keys in the ignition, police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said in an email.
About 30 minutes later, an Aurora police officer saw the truck moving eastbound on Prairie Street before turning northbound onto Lake Street, Ferrelli said.
When police tried to stop the truck at Lake and Benton Street, the driver, later identified as the 15-year-old boy from Aurora, ran from the vehicle, Ferrelli said.
Officers chased the boy through several yards and took him into custody on the first block of South Lake Street, Ferrelli said. The boy has since been taken to the youth home, Ferrelli said.
