Four dogs died after their owners’ house caught fire Sunday evening on Aurora’s Far East Side, according to fire officials.
Aurora firefighters responded at 7:14 p.m. Sunday to the fire on the 900 block of Fieldstone Lane. A family had left their home about two hours earlier, returned to see heavy smoke and called 911, according to a fire department news release.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from the front door of the two-story, single-family home. A dozen firefighters had the fire out in 30 minutes and contained it to the first-floor dining room, where it was located, according to the news release.
However, four dogs that were home when the fire broke out did not survive, according to the news release. A fire official did not know anything more about the dogs.
Fire officials determined the home was uninhabitable and estimated the fire damage at $40,000.
No firefighters or other people reported any injuries, according to fire officials.
Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, said spokesman Capt. Jim Rhodes.
