A man already on parole in a separate gun case was ordered held without bail Wednesday in the shooting death last month of a man outside a West Rogers Park banquet hall.

Nicholas Bradbury, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 20 killing of Abimbola Michael Sheleru, 28, as Sheleru left a party in the 2400 block of West Devon Avenue, according to prosecutors, who said there’s no known relationship between Bradbury and Sheleru and that Bradbury was the driver for another person who carried out the shooting.

Sheleru and someone he knew who also knows Bradbury left a party at Bombay Hall, 2448 W. Devon Ave., through a back door about 4:35 a.m. Nov. 20 and walked through the parking lot toward their cars, prosecutors said. A dark-colored vehicle pulled into the park lot about the same time, and the person who was with Sheleru recognized Bradbury at the wheel.

Bradbury drove up to near where Sheleru was trying to get into his car and stopped. Someone else got out of the front passenger side of the car, ran up to Sheleru and shot him multiple times, prosecutors said.

The gunman ran back to Bradbury’s car and got back in, and Bradbury drove off, prosecutors said.

Sheleru, of the 6100 block of North Hermitage Avenue, was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 7:43 a.m. on Nov. 20, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police found eight shell casings at the scene, and determined that surveillance video from Bombay Hall showed the shooting, prosecutors said. The person who left the hall with Sheleru and knows Bradbury identified Bradbury as the driver of the car in the shooting, prosecutors said.

Bradbury was arrested by the Chicago police Fugitive Apprehension Unit at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 5300 block of North California Avenue—the block where court records show he lives—according to police.

No one else has been charged in Sheleru’s killing yet.

Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Bradbury held no bail.

“Your background dictates that you be held without bail, sir,” Bourgeois said.

Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Bryan Grissman said in court that Bradbury is on parole for a possession of a firearm by a gang member conviction in a 2011 case. Illinois Department of Corrections records show he served three years in prison in a seven-year sentence in the case, and had been scheduled to be on parole through next year.
