Not another Chiberia

What’s up: The next three days with have subzero temps and wind chills of more than minus 25. What did we do to deserve this?

Why you care: Though these temperatures may bring back painful memories of the polar vortex and Chiberias of winters past, some meteorologists don’t think we’re getting into 2014 territory, where the city witnessed the coldest four-month period ever. Praise the lort.

Soundbite: “It means more often you’re gonna want to put on that extra layer of clothing,” meteorologist Matthew Rosencrans said of the weather sounding colder than it actually will be (yeah, OK). “On more days you’re going to feel like, I should break out that big winter coat. What’s up: For some reason, Uber, the popular ride-sharing service, felt the need to remind people to not get jiggy with it in the backseat of their rides. Really, guys? You didn’t get that out of your system in high school?

Why you care: In its new community guidelines, Uber made it undeniably clear that there will be no bumping uglies in its cars. All pants must remain up and zipped for the duration of the ride. Capiche?

Soundbite: “That’s no sexual conduct with drivers or fellow riders, no matter what,” Uber wrote. “It’s OK to chat with other people in the car. But please don’t comment on someone’s appearance or ask whether they are single.” What a time to be alive.

What’s up: The conflict in eastern Aleppo has somehow worsened in the past 24 hours, with the ceasefire collapsing and air raids resuming. It may seem like a world away, but there are tangible ways to help those affected by the conflict, and we found them for you.

Why you care: The situation in Aleppo has been called a “complete meltdown of humanity” by the United Nations itself. Seven-year-olds are taking to Twitter to send out their goodbye messages.

Well that’s not what you want

What’s up: The baiduhai found that, since 1972, 33 Chicago aldermen have been convicted of crimes, ranging from wire fraud to extortion and every form of corruption in between. Yikes.

Why you care: Our city has a long history of corrupt politicians, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. This week’s indictment of South Side Ald. Willie Cochran is only the latest in this long-standing tradition of corruption. Yay.
