Colin Lochiatto, 16, of Lake Forest started a Christmas ornament business named LF Ornaments. Profits will go to Fill A Heart 4 Kids, a nonprofit that delivers care packages to orphans and foster children in group homes.

Q. When did you start this business?

A. I ordered the ornaments at the end of October, created a website and started the business. I just got the ornaments Nov. 17.

Q. How did you come up with the idea for this?

A. In Lake Forest High School, there is a class called Entrepreneurship. We were brainstorming for products. I tried to pitch (LF Ornaments) to my class but due to time restrictions, it didn’t work out.

Q. How have you been promoting the ornaments?

A. I spoke to the (sports) Boosters, made a flyer. My mom shared it, a few of my friends shared it. I haven’t started social media yet.

Q. The ornament looks like part of Lake Forest High School. Did you have to get the school’s permission?

A. It wasn’t necessary. I never used their logos. The Booster store (also known as Scout’s Spirit Store at Lake Forest High School) has started selling them as well.

Q. How many have you sold so far?

A. I’ve sold 75. About 40 have been delivered.

Q. Why choose to donate profits to Fill a Heart for Kids?

A. My mom has done a few things with them. I can’t imagine what it would be like to grow up without a dad or mom. It’s a really tough situation.

Q. I’m told you play football?

A. Left tackle and a little bit of defensive end.

Q. Does the ornament business interfere with that?

A. So far it’s been 15 to 20 hours to set everything up and delivering it to people. It’s something I’m enjoying doing.
