The Lake Forest Caucus Committee is recommending a former alderman and the present chairman of Westminster Capital for mayor of Lake Forest.
Robert Lansing, 69, served as an alderman from 1998 to 2002 and on the Zoning Board of Appeals from 1994 to 1998, according to a release from the Lake Forest Caucus. He is a past elder at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest and a co-founder and former president of Conway Farms Golf Club.
Lansing has lived in Lake Forest since 1981.
The Lake Forest Caucus originally considered 16 residents for a mayoral recommendation said Chris Collins, caucus president.
“This was a particularly difficult time period for the city,” Collins said. “You are talking about serious issues that are affecting everyone in the state, public pensions, issues with real estate markets that people have concerns with.”
While candidates can and have run outside a Lake Forest Caucus recommendation, they are not often elected. The most recent example Collins is aware of is Ted Moorman, who was voted onto the District 115 school board three years ago. This year Moorman went through the caucus process, which has recommended him to retain his seat.
Also recommended by the Lake Forest Caucus Committee for aldermanic seats are James Morris, Melanie Rummel and Ray Buschmann.
The committee’s picks for District 67 school board are Alice LeVert, Mike Borkowski, Robert Lemke and Jeff Folker. The recommended candidates for District 115 are Ted Moorman, Sally Davis and Tomas Nemickas.
All registered voters in Lake Forest can attend the annual caucus meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois. Recommended candidates will present themselves and residents may vote on whether to officially slate those candidates.
The election will take place April 5.
