The singers with the Buffalo Grove Park District’s show choir started its holiday tour Saturday with twists on various holiday classics, including a performance on what happens during the 12 days after Christmas.
In the traditional holiday song “12 Days of Christmas,” a gift-giving lover presents his true love with a dozen presents.
During the Saturday concert from the BG Singers’ Encore! choir, singers detailed the follow-up story of a fight between the man and his lover on Christmas Day, leading to the girlfriend destroying all the presents during the 12 days after Christmas, said conductor Linda Rosen.
The song included the girlfriend realizing how five golden rings turned out to be fake and how she burned the pear tree.

“It’s a novelty number that we found,” Rosen said. “The lover disposes of the gifts in inappropriate ways.”
Other twists on classical holiday songs included a three-minute summary of the “Nutcracker” ballet, Rosen said. The holiday concert at the Community Arts Center in Buffalo Grove began the BG Singers’ Encore! holiday program for the season.
The group is scheduled to perform eight additional times during the week of Dec. 4 alone, Rosen said. The Saturday event attracted about 150 people, organizers said.
