A commission created in October to attract and retain businesses in Hampshire is seeking six community members to serve alongside Trustee Mike Armato.
Armato was appointed to the Hampshire Business Development Commission by Village President Jeffrey Magnussen.
“Trustee Armato has been instrumental in putting this commission together,” Magnussen said.
The commission, established by ordinance, will act as an advisory group to the Village Board.
“This is a grass-roots effort,” Armato said. “The commission will be comprised of a seven-member board. It will consist of one village trustee and six members made up of community stakeholders, especially those with backgrounds in leadership, marketing, banking, commercial real estate, commercial and industrial development, and (with) a desire to help Hampshire grow. Five of the seven members must be Hampshire residents with the sixth and seventh ones possibly being nonresidents having a financial tie to the village.”
Commission members will be appointed by the village president and confirmed by the Village Board. The chairman will serve a one-year term, while the other members will serve for three years. Magnussen and the chairman of the village’s Economic Development Committee will be ex-officio commission members. The commission will meet once a month with meetings open to the public.
People interested in serving on the commission should compose a short statement on their skills and why they want to serve. They should contact Village Hall at 234 S. State St., P.O. Box 457, Hampshire, IL 60140; or email to [email protected].
