player ready...Swiss-based MSC Cruises has celebrated the float-out of the first vessel in its new Seaside-class of ship — the MSC Seaside, which will call PortMiami home in December 2017.
The float-out ceremony took place Saturday at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, where the ship is being built, said MSC, which operates its North American division from Fort Lauderdale.
The construction milestone signals that the exterior is complete and the ship is ready for its first floating on water. The ship is then moved to a wet dock for the final phase of construction when the interior and fixtures and fittings are done, MSC said.
“MSC Seaside has been specifically designed to provide our guests with a unique on-board experience in warmer regions,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises’ executive chairman, in a statement. “We are delighted with the strength of sales for MSC Seaside so far, from both American and European guests alike.”
The 5,179-passenger ship will offer 11 dining venues, including five specialty restaurants; an expanded MSC Yacht Club, the line’s unique ship-within-a-ship concept that offers a private sun deck, lounge and restaurant, and two apartment suites with a living room and large balcony.
MSC Seaside will sail year-round from Miami to the Caribbean.
