A Kane County grand jury recently indicted a 27-year-old Hampshire man in connection to marijuana trafficking charges, court documents show.
Brent Hutchinson is free on $10,000 bail facing cannabis possession, delivery and distribution counts lodged in the Nov. 2 indictment. Hutchinson is scheduled to return to court Dec. 9, at which time he could be formally arraigned on the charges.
Suspicious packages sent to Hutchinson’s home prompted an investigation earlier this year by the Illinois State Police and North Central Narcotics Task Force, according to documents. Authorities determined a 40-pound box was sent to Hutchinson in April, followed by a 25-pound package sent to him overnight in May. Police found marijuana remnants in his trash a few days after the May delivery. Both boxes were sent from addresses in California, according to court filings.
Police secured a search warrant after a third delivery was intercepted in June, according to documents. An undercover agent posing as a delivery driver brought that box to Hutchinson’s home June 8. After someone there accepted the package, police were able to conduct a search. They discovered 10 pounds of marijuana in foil and vacuum-sealed bags inside the box, while additional marijuana and dozens of “purple pills” and other drug paraphernalia were found elsewhere in the home, records state.
