A 20-year-old man was shot and four other people were injured during a shooting that caused two crashes Tuesday afternoon on the Eisenhower Expressway, authorities said.
State police were called to eastbound Interstate 290 at Morgan Street about 3 p.m. Tuesday and found a 20-year-old man had been shot in the abdomen while driving a black Infinity SUV, causing him to crash into a wall, an Illinois State Police trooper said.
Though his condition had been stabilized as of Wednesday at Stroger Hospital, officials still have not been able to interview him, said state police spokesman Master Sgt. Jason Bradley, who added that the 20-year-old was the only person who was shot.
Three others inside the Infinity were injured, including a 24-year-old man in the front passenger seat who possibly suffered a broken leg and a 22-year-old woman and infant who were in the backseat.
The male passenger was also taken to Stroger and the woman and child were taken to Rush University Medical Center.

Other occupants of the SUV have not been cooperating with police, so investigators still do not have a good idea of what occurred other than the gunman was inside a passing vehicle, Bradley said.
A 50-year-old man driving a red Toyota Camry in the westbound lanes swerved to avoid metal debris that landed in the road, causing him to lose control and also hit the wall, the trooper said. He was taken to Stroger with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
Video from the scene showed a black SUV that appeared to have crashed into the barrier next to the left lane.
The expressway was closed east of Morgan for the investigation, with traffic diverted at Racine Avenue, according to state police and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Tuesday’s attack marks the 45th shooting on Chicago-area expressways since Jan. 1, Bradley said, though none of them has been random.
“The number has been higher than in years past, but not any of these have been random persons,” Bradley said.
Bradley urged anyone who knows anything about the attack to call Illinois State Police at 847-294-4400.
