Three teenage boys were arrested after a vehicle was shot at on Aurora’s East Side, police said Monday.
At about 2 p.m. Friday, police went to the 500 block of Liberty Street after getting a report about a gun being fired, said Aurora Police Sgt. Matthew Ziman.
After a “lengthy investigation,” involving cooperating neighbors, identification by witnesses and police officers conducting follow up work, the teens — two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old — were taken into custody, Ziman said.
It seemed the teens didn’t like who was in a vehicle passing through the neighborhood and at least one of them shot at the vehicle, Ziman said.
“These three young men decided they wanted to shoot some rounds at this vehicle as it was passing by,” Ziman said.
Police have not located the vehicle the teens are accused of shooting at, Ziman said.
“As far as we know, nothing was hit,” Ziman said. “We did find evidence of a shooting near (there).”
All three teens were charged with possession of a stolen firearm; possession of a firearm while not eligible for a FOID card; and possession of a firearm by a gang member, Ziman said. One of the boys was also charged with three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, including one count that is a Class X felony, and three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Police said the gun used had been reported stolen out of Will County.
