Franklin Park officials welcomed a Polish delegation from Skarzysko-Kamienna over the weekend.
“Last year, I was honored to be a part of a governmental, cultural and industry exchange with Poland — traveling with [Chicago] Aldermen Ariel Reboyras and Chris Taliaferro,” Franklin Park Village President Barrett Pedersen said at Saturday’s event. “We met with our counterparts in local government as well as community and business leaders. And to say we were impressed would be an understatement.”
The two Chicago aldermen joined the Franklin Park Village Board to welcome Mayor Konrad Kroning from Skarzysko-Kamienna in Poland. The visit included the designation of a commuter parking facility in Franklin Park as the honorary City of Skarzysko-Kamienna Transportation Facility.
“It’s a great honor and pleasure for me to be here,” Kroning said. “It’s also a great honor for our local community to start a cooperation with your town.”
After Pedersen and Kroning’s remarks, Franklin Park village officials unveiled a new plaque dedicating the parking lot. Then Pedersen and Kroning signed proclamations to “strengthen the bonds of friendship between” the two communities.
Once they were done signing the proclamations, the two men exchanged pens and cultural gifts from each other’s communities. Once the dedication was finished, village officials took the Polish delegation on a tour of Franklin Park’s police facility.
