A somewhat raw prospect with clear upside is a good fit for a rebuilding program with a young roster. UIC can afford to be patient with its newest recruit, 6-foot-9 center Greg Eboigbodin.

A native Nigerian who has spent the last three-plus years at University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Eboigbodin signed a national letter of intent with UIC on Friday.

“Greg may not have grown up playing basketball, but he has developed a tremendous understanding of the game in a short period of time,” Flames coach Steve McClain said in a statement. “He’s got a great background in soccer and he’s a fantastic athlete. Greg can get up and down the floor in a hurry, and he uses his size and strength to his advantage, particularly on the defensive end.”

Eboigbodin has been part of a winning culture at Detroit Jesuit. The team captured Michigan’s Class A state championship last season, and Eboigbodin was named to the Class A all-state team.
