A pedestrian died after stepping in front of a semi-truck Wednesday evening on Interstate 80 in Will County, state police said.
The man’s identity is currently unknown, Illinois State Police said.
Police said the pedestrian walked into a lane of eastbound I-80 near Wheeler Road for “unknown reasons.”
The man was standing on the right shoulder right before the 2011 Kenworth tractor towing a 2013 Hyundai trailer approached in the far right eastbound lane, state police said. The man was struck by the front end of the truck.
A 52-year-old Indiana man was diving the truck, police said. Officials did not indicate Thursday whether the driver was cited in the crash.
Police said the pedestrian was declared him dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
