A fire that ruined a home on Aurora’s East Side was caused by a malfunctioning dehumidifier, Aurora Fire Department officials said Wednesday.
At 4:19 p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to the house fire on the 3900 block of Nicholas Court, according to a news release from the fire department.
When crews arrived, smoke showed from the attached garage of the two-story, single-family, wood-frame house, according to the fire department.
Three people had been home when the fire started – a husband and wife and their daughter – and they called 911, according to the news release.
Over the course of about an hour, 22 firefighters put the fire out. The house was deemed uninhabitable and the victims are staying with nearby family members, according to the fire department.
No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters. Officials estimated the damage at $50,000.
