The Lincolnwood Village Board discussed and/or acted on the following items during its meeting Nov. 1

The Village Board unanimously approved a measure to upgrade software used for emergency response for $41,220.

The software, purchased from Tyler Technologies, will help transition Lincolnwood’s dispatch services to the village of Skokie, which will take over Lincolnwood’s 911 and non-emergency answering services under a state mandate requiring smaller communities to merge their dispatch centers with other towns.

A new software interface is needed to connect Lincolnwood to Skokie’s emergency response system, according to the village. The software will allow each call for service to be electronically imported into Skokie’s system.

Ad valorem property tax increase approved

The Village Board, as part of the consent agenda, approved a resolution to increase the 2016 tax levy by $38,022.

Trustees informally supported the increase during the Oct. 20 Committee of the Whole meeting where the village’s finance director, Robert Merkel, presented an overview of the first quarter fiscal year budget and the tax levy proposal.

Each year the Village Board determines the estimated amount of money to be raised by taxation for the next fiscal year upon the taxable property in the taxing district at least 20 days prior to the approval of an ordinance levying property taxes.

The tax levy increase is limited to the maximum allowed under the state statute for tax capped communities. The 2016 tax cap is .7 percent, which equates to an increase of $38,022 for a total levy of $5,469,755.

Pratt Avenue Resurfacing nears completion

A resurfacing project along Pratt Avenue between Lockwood and Crawford avenues is nearing completion and is expected to be finished on schedule by mid-November, according to the village. Since later September when the project started, crews have been removing and replacing deteriorating asphalt, curbs, and gutters and installing crosswalk improvements. A parking lane was also striped along the street to help define the legal parking areas.
