A 21-year-old Joliet man has been sentenced to 105 years in prison for killing a man in Aurora in 2014.

Dimitri J. Green-Hosey, 21, of the 1200 block of Fairchild Avenue, was sentenced Friday by Kane County Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler Jr.

A Kane County jury convicted Green-Hosey Aug. 31 of first-degree murder and armed robbery for the January 2014 killing of Arin Williams. The jury found that Green-Hosey personally fired the gun used to commit the crime, according to a news release from the state’s attorney’s office.

At about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13, 2014, Green-Hosey and his brother, co-defendant Jaquan Green-Hosey, met with Williams at La Torta Carniceria y Taqueria restaurant on the 800 block of North Lake Street in Aurora, prosecutors said.

The brothers had arranged to buy an ounce of marijuana from Williams, but instead decided to rob him of the drugs, according to the state’s attorney’s office. During the meeting, Jaquan grabbed the marijuana and began to run. Then Dimitri shot Williams in the back of the head, killing him, according to the news release.

The brothers fled east and threw the gun in the Fox River, officials said.

Green-Hosey’s total 105-year sentence is the sum of 35 years for first-degree murder plus a mandatory 25-year enhancement because he used a gun to commit the murder and another 20 years for the armed robbery, also with a mandatory 25-year enhancement because of the gun use.

In accordance with state law, Green-Hosey must serve the full sentence for first-degree murder, and must serve at least 85 percent of the armed robbery sentence.

His brother, Jaquan Green-Hosey, now 22, of the same address, pleaded guilty in February to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime.

“These young men killed someone because they didn’t want to pay for an ounce of marijuana,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said in a statement. “They engaged in remarkable violence and ultimately put three young lives to waste over something quite insignificant.”
