Cubs fever was a nice break from all the presidential political yammering. Now, a return to our regular programming, America.

At least folks like Chance the Rapper are geared up to re-center the conversation on the importance of voting, and hopefully make thinking about the election more fun.

“I’m throwing a block party/concert/rally/Parade on top of @virginhotelschi all on Monday. Surprise Guest,” the rapper tweeted today. Chance’s new SocialWorks non-profit organization, launched in September at his Magnificent Coloring Day festival in Chicago, is sponsoring a free get-out-the-vote concert on the rooftop of Virgin Hotels Chicago (203 N. Wabash) on Monday starting at 3 pm, featuring TwinPeaks, Eryn Allen Kane, oddCouple, Stefan Ponce and Chance’s younger brother, Taylor Bennett.

The event represents a second generation of political activism for the Bennett family — dad Ken Bennett has worked for then-Senator Barack Obama. Chance will lead a parade to the polls at 6 pm on Monday, encouraging party-goers (and hopefully a bunch of millennials out there) to vote.

SocialWorks’ and the FlexYourVote initiative have also been holding town hall events around Chicago, including one scheduled for the Chicago Urban League (4510 S. Michigan Ave.) tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants from the fields of health, business, social activism and the arts will lead a discussion of the impact of politics on millennials, and how those issues can inform decisions at the polls. They’ve also promised more info on Chance’s Monday concert — and a reminder that all 51 early polling places are open for business in Chicago. “This election is very important, a chance for new leaders and new opportunities to emerge,” Chance said in a press release. And hey, if a rock star invites you to a rooftop party where you can also cast your vote … what’s stopping you?
